While our priority is to meet the immediate needs of the children currently living at the Dolam Children's Home, we are planning for a future new and larger home to meet the following needs:

  • Provide more privacy, study space, and a larger recreational area for the children
  • A larger and more modern kitchen
  • Provide shelter for emergency cases of children referred from the Women and Child Protection Units. Duration of stays vary from one to three weeks, or until cases are resolved by the police and the social workers
  • To engage children in community service programs, life skills training and exposure to different skills
  • Attract volunteers for medical needs, tutoring, and recreational activities

Action to date:

  • City of Windhoek and Dolam Children’s Home Trust signed the purchase agreement in 2009 after a six years battle for land
  • Land is now registered in the name of Dolam Children’s Home Trust
  • Plans to fundraise in order to build Dolam house has started
  • The proposal for the building and has been finalized
  • Meetings and negotiations on the building with city of Windhoek and the architect and constructer has also started
  • Recruit staff to manage the house and supervise the children
  • Regular monthly meetings with the management committee are being held to ensure that the current and future needs of the children are being addressed
